PITT JAM FEST
RECAP
ALL-MET ELITE
EDITION
2014 point guard Romelo Trimble. A strong guard with the ability to play either backcourt spot,
Trimble has a mature floor game and is a vocal leader, traits that will come in
handy during his transition to college.
Against a smaller but quicker guard in Snider, Trimble was forced to use his
strength and length to try to keep Snider out of the lane, leading to mixed
results. On offense, Trimble was much more efficient, knocking down long shots
from behind the arc and making smart decisions with the ball to set up teammates
for open shots. He's not the quickest player, but as a lead guard who rarely
turns the ball over, Trimble is every bit a four-star guard who should be ready
to play early in his college career.
Maryland has
received an early commitment from Trimble, and staff members from the Terrapins
were in the gym Friday night to monitor his progress.
Arinze Onuaku wound up being a great asset to Syracuse several years ago.
Now, his brother, Chinanu Onuaka, has the chance to do the same thing. The 2014 center
from Riverdale Baptist (MD) is still very much so raw on the offensive end of
the game, but he posses the body of a high-major big man with his 6-foot-11
frame, as well as a many similar traits to his older brother. The 2014 big is
listing strong interest from the likes of Seton Hall, Georgetown, Cincinnati,
Maryland and Virginia Tech, with others taking a look. Kansas State, who landed
a commitment from his teammate Nigel Johnson on Saturday, will likely
become heavily involved in the near future due to their strong ties in the DMV
area.
Tariq Owens of BMores's Finest has been promising ever since breaking onto the scene last July. The 2014
St. Vincent Pallotti (MD) power forward has a good feel for the game overall and
has continued to work on his flaws on the court. Gifted with length, an
improving mid-range jumper and some very athletic finishes on both sides of the
ball, he is closing in on a decision soon. Considering Temple, VCU, Miami,
Georgetown, Cincinnati and others, the original plan was to make a college
decision before the spring was over. If he continues to play well, his stock
could rise higher and new schools would come in. This could be a positive
dilemma in Owens' college recruitment.
After making his name known at Reebok Breakout Camp last July, offers and
interest shot up for Devin Robinson. As he was primarily a power forward at that time, the 2014
Christchurch (VA) prospect is developing into a combo forward with the mentality
of implementing as many wing skills as he can into his game.
An improved rebounder, whose handle is getting better over time, Robinson is running with the Richmond Squires (VA) and has the green light. Cincinnati, Auburn and Clemson, among others, were in attendance to see him on Friday.
At 6-foot-7 now, he holds offers from Auburn, Gardner-Webb, Xavier, Boston, Rutgers, VCU, George Mason, Virginia Tech, Towson and UConn. VCU is coming on the strongest, while Robinson hopes to check out the campuses of UConn and Xavier in the near future.
If he continues to improve, look for Robinson's offer list to continue to expand throughout the spring and summer.

VCU may have some competition after the way that Robinson played in the Pitt Hoop Group Jam Fest on Saturday. Squires knocked off Philly Pride before losing to a loaded Atlanta Xpress, and Robinson played great. He was knocked down threes, he was blocking shots around the rim, he was beating top 50 center Trayvon Reed for offensive rebounds, and he showed that he could use the dribble to create shots.
Kaleb Johnson could be a very special option. With the plan to reclassify
from 2014 to 2015, the Parkview (VA) guard is 6-foot-6 with plenty of upside as
a combo guard. Radford, Xavier, Yale, Quinnipiac and Georgia State have
expressed interest in Johnson, who will likely wind up at Carslisle School (VA).
His handle and ability to play the guard position for the Richmond Squires (VA)
this year will help him greatly.
