Eric Konkol has turned toward one of his former players to fill one of three assistant coach openings at Louisiana Tech.

The school announced Tuesday that Tony Skinn, who played under Konkol at George Mason, is joining the Bulldogs' staff.

Skinn, 32, has no college coaching experience but most recently served as athletic director at Paul Public Charter School in Washington D.C. and as an assistant coach for Nike Team Takeover, a 16-and-under AAU team.

Skinn, who is from Nigeria, played six seasons overseas in Croatia, France, Italy, Germany, Israel and Ukraine. He last played professionally in 2012 as a member of the Nigerian national team that qualified for the Summer Olympics.

What Skinn does bring is the ability to relate to college players, both with age and experience on the court. Skinn played for George Mason in 2006 during the Patriots' Final Four run. The point guard averaged 12 points per game.
