COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman guard Melo Trimble scored 19 points, Dion Wiley had 16, and the Maryland men’s basketball team surged in an impressive second half to defeat San Francisco State, 86-52, in its exhibition opener Saturday afternoon.

Maryland established its dominance early on with an impressive three-point shooting display from Trimble, who finished the first half with a team-leading 13 points. Fellow classmate Wiley added eight points while redshirt senior Richaud Pack contributed eight of his 15 points of the day in the first half.

“Melo had a lot of composure out there,” head coach Mark Turgeon said. “He really made some nice plays defensively and he’s a real good player.”
