CAPE HENRY COLLEGIATE HS.
VIRGINIA BEACH VA.

Cape Henry standout guard Chris Clarke held a press conference last week to announce he would play basketball at Tennessee.

But he's changed his mind and has now committed to Virginia Tech.

There was no press conference this time.

Phone calls to Clarke's father, Curt, and his coach, Mark Hall, were not immediately returned.

Hall did send a text message saying he didn't want to comment because he wanted to respect the wishes of the family, but did confirm that Clarke is headed to Virginia Tech.

"It was a family decision to stay local," Hall said in the text, "and we will continue to support Chris."

The family also released a statement late Thursday that read: "We've contemplated this decision. After his decision on Tennessee, further communication with the family and discussion came to the opinion it would be better for him and his goals and the family's situation to remain local. That's why he's going to Virginia Tech."
