2014 GUARD
ROBERT JOHNSON
COMMITS TO
INDIANA UNIVERSITY
ALL-MET ELITE
BENEDICTINE COLLEGE PREPARATORY HS.
RICHMOND VA.
The Indiana University basketball team picked up its
first recruiting commitment in the 2014 class on Friday with the pledge of
versatile four-star guard Robert Johnson.
A 6-foot-2 player from Benedictine High School in
Richmond, Va., picked the Hoosiers over North Carolina, Florida State and
Virginia during an announcement at his school.
Johnson, the nation’s No. 42 senior, according to
Rivals.com, has been a priority recruit for IU coach Tom Crean, who, according
to Johnson’s father, thinks he is capable of playing either guard position in
college.
Robert Johnson Sr. said in a Tuesday night phone
interview that he believes his son’s shooting ability could be a major asset to
the Hoosiers.
“I think it’s huge … (for) any school in the country,
if you can find a scorer, that’ll really make your team much better,” he said.
“That’s what it has evolved to, people who can really score the basketball and
shoot the basketball from deep range. I think that really would benefit (the
Hoosiers).”
