CHICAGO - DePaul coach Oliver Purnell announced today that Renard Phillips has joined the men's basketball staff as an assistant coach. The newest member of the staff started work with the Blue Demons on June 17.

Phillips makes the move to Chicago from Washington, D.C. where he was head varsity basketball coach at Friendship Collegiate Academy since May 2012. He led FCA to a 20-7 record last season while reaching the semifinals of the Beltway Independent Playoffs. Other stops as a prep coach include Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville, Fla.) from 2010-12, Progressive Christian Academy (Temple Hills, Md.) from 2009-10 and Georgetown Prep (Rockville, Md.) for the 2008-09 season. He was also on the staff at DeMatha High School (Hyattsville, Md.) from 2002-03.

Phillips was also involved with AAU basketball working as a coach in the DC Assault program since 2008. He also worked with Blue Devil AAU basketball from 2006-08.
As a player, Phillips played at DeMatha High School before four collegiate seasons at VMI (1998-02). He totaled 96 career games for the Keydets and totaled just over 200 career assists as a point guard.
Phillips replaces former assistant coach Brian Ellerbe on the coaching staff.
