1. Martinsburg
Head coach: David Rogers
2011-12 finish: 23-3, Class AAA semifinalist
Rogers, who topped the 600-win mark last season, is looking to notch his third state title at Martinsburg and certainly has the talent to do it. The Bulldogs have the luxury of putting on the floor eight experienced seniors, headlined by Donte Grantham (6-6, F) and Jalen Lewis (6-2, G). Grantham tallied more than 18 points and 11 rebounds per game as a junior while earning Class AAA first team All-State honors. Several mid- and low-major college programs are hoping to land a major steal in Grantham.
2. Morgantown
Head coach: Tom Yester
2011-12 finish: 18-7
Yester has been a head coach since the early 1970s and has more than 600 wins to his credit. He would love to add a state title to the resume and there is plenty of room for optimism in that regard with senior Nathan Adrian on the roster. A 6-foot-8 forward committed to the in-state West Virginia Mountaineers, Adrian posted averages of 19.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game in 2011-12. The Mohigans have some size and experience to go around him with returnees Mark Johnson (6-3, Sr., F), Nicolas Colasante (6-1, Sr., G), Dean Marshall (6-4, Sr., F), Austin Agnew (6-4, Sr., F) and Daniel Eby (6-4, Sr., F).
3. Wilson (Beckley)
Head coach: Ronald Kidd
2011-12 finish: 19-6
Wilson is the most decorated team in state history with 16 state championships. Don't be surprised if the Flying Eagles add No. 17 this winter. The backcourt is in great shape with returners Ta-Ron Ayers (5-8, Jr.) and Andrew Johnson (6-1, Sr.), who both averaged more than 13 points per game a year ago. Juniors Chase Hancock (6-2, G/F) and Donte Nabors (5-11, G) also return to the fold for the perennial power.

2011-12 finish: 21-6, Class AAA quarterfinals
The Black Eagles were dealt a major blow when rising junior star Jon Elmore elected to finish his high school career at Christ School (Arden, N.C.). While losing a Division I prospect would be crippling for most programs, South Charleston has the talent and athleticism to bounce back. Junior forward Kevin Williams (6-5) is capable of picking up much of the slack. Seniors Rashad Kincaid, Hunter Moles (6-4, F) and Trevond Reese (6-1, G/F) – a FBS football recruit – are also key returnees.
5. Logan
Head coach: Mark Hatcher
2011-12 finish: 17-9, Class AAA quarterfinalist
The Wildcats will have a new look this winter without first team All-State player Stevie Browning, who averaged 24.9 points per game a year ago. Logan would have liked to rely on rising junior Da'Jon Streeter, who posted 15.4 points per game as a sophomore, but he departed for an out-of-state school. A. J. Reynolds (6-1, Jr., G), C. J. Williams (6-2, Jr., G/F) and Trent Dalton (5-7, Jr., G) are expected to help make the transition a smooth one.
