THE BOSTON CELTICS KRIS JOSEPH - ALL-MET ELITE

THE BOSTON CELTICS
KRIS JOSEPH
ALL-MET ELITE
ARCHBISHOP CARROLL HS.
WASHINGTON D.C.

Rigsby, a mother of four who immigrated to Montreal from Trinidad and Tobago wasn’t ready to have her youngest leave the house just yet.
“He was to me a little bit too immature for that environment,” Rigsby said. “It was an unknown to me in the first place. Leaving home to go to school at that age.”
A year later and after more research, Rigsby understood that sending her baby to a foreign country was the best thing for him. Rigsby gave the OK for Kris to attend Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C.
“She realized I could do some great things,” Kris said.
In the new environment, Kris flourished. He helped turn around Archbishop Carroll’s fortunes on the court and led the once dormant team to a 26-11 record his senior year. He also starred for a local AAU powerhouse, the D.C. Assault. Playing Division I basketball was soon a legitimate possibility. But where?
“I got a call from an AAU coach, Keith Stevens of Team Takeover, about Kris after he moved,” Murphy, now the head coach at Eastern Michigan, said. “He said ‘I know you guys [Syracuse] like versatile forwards, you should take a look at him.’”
Murphy knew of Kris thanks to his brother who was playing at Michigan State University at the time. Maurice was a teammate of Maurice Ager. Murphy coached Ager in high school in Detroit. He said Kris used to play against college guys all the time.
“He liked Syracuse and we liked him.”
