DISCUSSES
HIS
UPCOMING SENIOR SEASON
1. Age, height, weight?
21, 6'5, 196lbs
2. This is your senior year can you walk us thru your individual off season preparation?
My off season was highly intense and consistent. Every week I set a specific goal on what I wanted to improve on and whether it was shooting the transition three, strengthening my ball handling or weight room and conditioning work. Towards the end of the summer I flew to providence Rhode Island to train with Alex Cruz, CEO of C4M training, who really helped improve my pick and roll game which is major at the next level. Overall definitely the most successful summer of my career so far.
3. What is expected of you as a senior on this year's team?
As the senior and captain of my team I am expected to lead by example as well and vocally. Ive seen adversity and I must have my guys mentally ready for anything that comes our way. This year’s team is filled with majority upper classman, so everyone knows what to expect and coach Gayle puts a lot of trust in me as well as the team, so it makes my job that much easier.
4. What schools, AAU, rec, boys & girls teams did you play for growing up?
I graduated from Capitol Christian in Landover MD and played AAU for Threat 220 and A.B.U Sports.
5. What was your thought process in making the decision to attend HBCU Albany State?
I chose Albany State University because of the campus life as well as its rich history. Being from the DMV, the southern lifestyle was different but appealing. It gave me a platform to expand my notoriety on the basketball scene being in such a competitive conference as the SIAC as well as network.
6. You attended the NBPA Top 50 camp how was that experience & what will you do to potentially prepare yourself for the NBA draft process?
The NBPA Top 50 camp was a learning experience that I was blessed to participate in. It allowed me to meet various former NBA players, coaches, trainers, as well as directors who all taught me different NBA systems. Most importantly, they gave great feedback on what I needed to improve on for this upcoming season. As far as preparing for the potential NBA draft process, I will be training in Providence with Alex Cruz and C4M training until it is time to start going to showcases and invitationals. If any other opportunities present themselves, I will weigh my options after the season.
7. How would you describe your game?
I would describe my game as a pure playmaker. Being that I am a bigger point guard I use my body to my advantage to make plays for my teammates as well as myself. My scoring ability from the point guard position, basketball IQ, and mental toughness is something I take pride in. I always want to make the defense uncomfortable but most importantly give my team confidence to know, no matter who we play, every game will be competitive which will give us the best chance to win.
8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I see myself playing basketball professionally with a college degree from Albany State University.
9. What has your HBCU experience been like as both a student & an athlete?
My HBCU experience has been full of life lessons and excitement. I love my HBCU and the support we get from the community as well as faculty is unmatched. It’s a family environment which makes you feel comfortable even though I’m hours away from the DC/MD area.
10. Would you recommend more student/athletes to consider HBCUs to further their academic & sports interests?
I would definitely recommend more student/ athletes choose an HBCU, many people look down on HBCU’s because they don’t know the rich history behind these schools. The campus feel is not the same as other various university’s and once you’re on campus you definitely feel more value in your education as well as athletically.
