2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
ALL-MET ELITE
DEMATHA HS.
HYATTSVILLE MD.
His storybook season was preceded by three unsatisfying ones. He was a player defined by what he hadn’t done.
Prior to the start of this tournament, he had never cut a net. He had never been a part of a team that had put a banner of any kind up in Cameron Indoor Stadium. No ACC titles. No Final Four trips.
Nothing.
His time at Duke had been remembered more for shocking NCAA tournament losses to Lehigh and Mercer than anything else.
Coming into this season, there were questions about how much of a role he’d have.
He lost his starting spot for the final 10 games of his junior season.
With the arrival of freshman point guard Tyus Jones, there was no guarantee he’d get back into Duke’s first five.
Fast forward to this season and Cook had made himself into the Blue Devils’ sure thing.
After an offseason spent working on his fitness and his outside shot, he became the reliable off guard the Blue Devils needed alongside Jones.
"To be next to coach, he's been like a father to me over these last four years, to have his arm around me and hugging me while we're watching 'One Shining Moment' was probably the best feeling in my life," Cook said. "... I'm just blessed. I'm just blessed that coach thought I was good enough to come to Duke."
