NBA ALL-STAR GAME
KD VI ILLUSION
ALL-MET ELITE

MONTROSE CHRISTIAN HS.
ROCKVILLE MD.

Nike Basketball‘s 2014 NOLA Gumbo League Collection takes its design inspiration from the city of New Orleans, home to the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. Not everything is what it first appears to be in New Orleans — a trait shared by Kevin Durant, whose skill set defies the expectations one normally associates with a near seven-footer. His virtually limitless scoring range is redefining what we expect from a forward, and the Nike KD 6 “Illusion” celebrates Durant’s remarkable versatility. The design showcases hand-drawn patterns on the upper symbolizing KD’s fluidity, while a teal glow-in-the-dark outsole also represents the “spark” of his game. The kicks come with a commemorative tarot card and special edition box. Look for them to launch February 14th.

"He's in a groove. And when you're in a zone like he's in, it (doesn't) matter how much film you watch (as an opponent), you just try to make it tough on him. He's going to make shots. He's going to make contested shots when you're playing great defense on him.

Sixty. Two. Points.

Two things he accomplished: 1) He retook the Madison Square Garden scoring record from Kobe Bryant, who had 61 in 2009 and 2) he now owns the franchise scoring record, taking it from Bernard King who had 60 on Christmas in 1984.

Melo went 23-35 from the field, hit 6-11 from 3 and 10-10 from the free throw line. He also added 13 rebounds to go with it and the Knicks beat the Bobcats, 125-96.

Anthony had only four makes in the paint. Four! Melo went 13-18 from midrange.

Melo also had 56 through three quarters, and only played the first five minutes of the fourth, checking out almost immediately after hitting a jumper to give him 62 and the records.

Kevin Durant Dunk

Kevin Durant returned from a sprained right shoulder to amass 32 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists and help fuel the Oklahoma City Thunder's 103-91 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center, etching his name alongside NBA royalty in the process.

Durant became just the sixth player since 1990 to score 30 or more points in 10 consecutive games, joining Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady.
The triple double was his second of the season and fifth of his career.

"I felt like I was out for so long even though it was just one game," Durant said. "I just want to play. I hate sitting out, but that was best for me and my shoulder, so I've just got to keep getting it better and I guess that day off was needed."

Former Georgetown star Jeff Green had his best game as a pro at Verizon Center, scoring a game-high 39 points by hitting an assortment of ridiculous shots, including a one-legged fadeaway three-pointer that tied the game late in regulation.

Green, who was playing on his alma mater’s home floor, made it on one foot, facing two defenders, while he was off-balance and fading out of bounds. It was one of his career-high eight 3-pointers on a career-high 16 attempts.

“My old locker is right down the hall,” he said. “I live 10 minutes from here. It’s a lot of comfort here. It’s like my second home.”

It was clear that Green felt right at home.

Green scored five straight points to begin overtime, giving him 39 points and nine rebounds for the night.

“It was great — in front of my family, friends. I couldn’t have scripted it better,” Green said.

"Honestly, I didn't even know how much I scored," Gay said. "It was more about getting the win."

It was going so well for Gay that he casually walked the ball up the court with an eye on the clock late in the third quarter, and then drilled a pull-up jumper from 27 feet.

"He put on a show tonight, coming off a game in Oklahoma City where he didn't play very well and got thrown out," Kings coach Michael Malone said. "He wanted to bounce back and show everybody what he is capable of."

In a loss two nights earlier to the Thunder, Gay scored only six points before being sent off the court with two technical fouls in the fourth quarter. But Gay hit 16 of 25 shots in the Big Easy, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range, to match a point total he last put up on Dec. 13, 2009, in Miami.

"I'm just having fun out there. I'm blessed to play this game," Durant said. "So every moment I'm on the court is fun for me no matter how the game's going. When you play this game and you look to the bench and you see your teammates so happy for you, all I can do is smile because I know they're genuinely happy for me, for the team. It's a great feeling when you have a group of brothers supporting you no matter what, so that's what I'm smiling for."

My teammates do a great job of setting me up. It's far more than just me," Durant said. "It's a small part actually, what I do. It's more so the plays Coach calls, the screens being set, the passes being passed. I think the end result is just on me trusting in the work to knock down shots."

DEMATHA'S MIKE JONES NAMED HEAD COACH OF 2014 USA JUNIOR SELECT TEAM - ALL-MET ELITE

DEMATHA'S

 NAMED

2014
USA JUNIOR SELECT TEAM
 ALL-MET ELITE

DEMATHA HS.
HYATTSVILLE MD.

Leading the USA will be heralded high school mentor Mike Jones (DeMatha Catholic H.S., Md.), who not only headed the 2013 USA Junior National Select Team and was an assistant coach for the 2012 USA Junior National Select Team, but who also was an assistant coach for the 2012 USA U17 World Championship Team, the 2011 USA U16 National Team and the East Team in the 2004 Youth Development Festival.

“We all are excited about this opportunity,” Jones said. “USA Basketball has once again assembled the best of the best from around the country. More than half of this team has international experience, and the others bring an intensity and fire to our team. We want to represent USA Basketball and our country as well as we possibly can. This is a blessing, and we all want to take advantage of it.

“We also know that our opponents will be the best coaches and players from around the world,” Jones continued. “We must meet the challenge of a team that will be well prepared and one that is full of talented and experienced players. Recent history adds to the game's interest and ensures that the USA will be focused and will play with heart and effort to make USA Basketball and America proud.”

As he was in 2013, Jones will be assisted by former NBA player and University of Virginia star Cory Alexander (Boo Williams AAU, Va.), who played on three USA Basketball teams. Alexander earned gold with the USA at the 1993 FIBA U21 World Championship, silver at the 1992 FIBA Americas U20 Championship and bronze with the South Team at the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival.

The Nike Hoop Summit is the country's premier annual basketball game for high-school-age boys, and it features America's top seniors playing against a World Select Team comprised of elite, international players age 19 years old or younger.

The USA will be led at the 17th annual game by its most experienced roster yet as it looks to capture a win after losses in 2012 and 2013. Overall, the United States owns an 11-5 series advantage.

Headlined by Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young H.S./Chicago, Ill.), a three-time gold medalist and MVP of the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship, the 2014 USA Junior National Select Team roster also includes two-time gold medal winners Stanley Johnson (Mater Dei H.S./Fullerton, Calif.), Tyus Jones (Apple Valley H.S./Apple Valley, Minn.) and Justise Winslow (St. John’s School/Houston, Texas); as well as Joel Berry II (Lake Highland Prep School/Apopka, Fla.) and Theo Pinson (Wesleyan Christian Academy/Greensboro, N.C.), who each own one international gold medal.

Rounding out the roster are Cliff Alexander (Curie Metropolitan H.S./Chicago, Ill.), who suited up for USA Basketball as a member of the 2013 USA 3x3 U18 World Championship Team; James Blackmon, Jr. (Marian H.S./Fort Wayne, Ind.), who trained with USA Basketball as a member of the 2011-12 Developmental National Team; and Kelly Oubre (Findlay Prep, Nev./Fort Bend, Texas) and Myles Turner (Trinity H.S./Bedford, Texas), who each took part in the 2013 USA Basketball Developmental National Team mini-camp this past October.

Thunder forward Kevin Durant set a new career-high by scoring 54 points during Oklahoma City’s 127-121 home win over Golden State on Friday.

Durant’s big night also marked the most points scored in an NBA game during the 2013-14 season, eclipsing the previous high of 48 points, which Durant set twice (Jan. 4 at the Timberwolves and Jan. 7 at the Jazz).

“I made a few shots and I felt good,” Durant told ESPN during a televised post-game interview. “My teammates were throwing me the ball with two or three guys on me and I still tried to make a play.

Those guys sacrificed their bodies setting screens for me, to get me open, it’s my job to finish for them. I saw the bench jump up every time I hit a shot, that’s one of the best feelings.”

The three-time scoring champ shot 19-for-28 from the field, 5-for-9 on three-pointers and 11-for-13 from the line. He added six assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block in 44 minutes.

Victor Oladipo scored a career-high 35 points Wednesday night in the Orlando Magic’s heartbreaking 128-125 triple-overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Because the game went into three extra periods, there’s a temptation to assume that Oladipo compiled his scoring total due to the extra time.

Not true.

Oladipo finished regulation with 33 points on 14-of-19 shooting.

Oladipo drove to the basket almost at will, prompting raves from teammate Jameer Nelson.

“One thing about Vic: He’s faster than a hiccup, man!” Nelson said after the game. “Did you see how fast he gets to that basket? When you blink, he’s gone. He just takes advantage of the seams, and he’s doing a better job of recognizing what’s going on, how teams are playing him. He made some good shots and some good plays for us tonight.

“He has to stay in attack mode, whether it’s for himself or for the rest of the team. We believe in him. He’s a guy [for whom] we put the ball in his hands a lot. He’s going to have his growing pains, just like anybody else. But that’s what it’s about. It’s about us, when he does have those growing pains, picking him up and not getting discouraged.”

WASHINGTON D.C.

The most impressive team effort of the day came from Washington (D.C.) St. John's who wiped the floor with Philadelphia (Pa.) Math, Civics & Science. Several players had strong games for St. John's including Miami bound James Palmer, Towson signee Mike Morsell, Farleigh Dickinson bound combo guard Darian Anderson and sophomore point guard Anthony Cowan.

Currently ranked in the Rivals150, Palmer is going to push for a move from high three-star to four-star status. The shooting guard has continued to grow and now looks to be a legit 6-foot-4 with long arms. He scores via the jumper and looks to be a great fit for the Hurricanes. A 6-foot-5 athlete who has to play the post for St. John's, Morsell is a high energy forward that crashes the glass and plays both ends. He led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds. Farleigh Dickinson is getting a very nice guard in Anderson.

He can shoot some from deep, is quick with the ball and like the rest of his teammates plays both ends. Finally, Cowan currently backs up Georgetown signee Tre Campbell but the sophomore is really one to watch. What he lacks in size at about 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds, the dynamo makes up for with heart and skill. He can score it, has exceptional quickness and is a deft passer. Cowan already has offers from Maryland, Xavier and DePaul.

With four of ESPN’s Top 20 ranked seniors slated to converge in Charlotte, NC next weekend, the 2014 Under Armour High School Showcase is expected to be one of the most star-studded prep invitationals of the year. The one-day event is scheduled to take place at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology High School on Saturday, January 11th.

Game #2 @ 1:30PM: St. John’s College (DC) vs. Math, Civics and Science (PA)
The Cadets are led by an extremely talented backcourt composed of Tre Campbell and James Palmer. Campbell, a 6-2 point guard committed to Georgetown, has gained notoriety for his lighting-quick speed.

A slasher and crafty scorer, the future Hoya is constantly keeping defenders on their toes. Palmer, a 6-4 shooting guard committed to Miami (FL), is known for his deadly shooting stroke, especially from behind the perimeter.

He is just as effective in all types of situations, whether it is off the dribble, spot up or off screens. Towson-commit Mike Morsell, Fairleigh Dickinson-commit Darian Anderson, and George Washington-commit Darian Bryant are also players to keep an eye out for.

SYRACUSE ASSISTANT COACH - ADRIAN AUTRY - STARTED COACHING CAREER IN NORTHERN VA. - ALL-MET ELITE

SYRACUSE ASSISTANT COACH
 ADRIAN AUTRY
 STARTED COACHING CAREER
 IN
NORTHERN VA.
 ALL-MET ELITE

After his professional career ended following 10 seasons spent overseas, Autry was working in the real estate business in Northern Virginia. He was a settlement agent. Business was good. The real estate market outside of Washington D.C. was booming.
Autry, though, dreamed of getting back into basketball. He wanted to coach.

In the summer of 2006, Autry attended Syracuse's Elite Camp. He visited with SU assistant Mike Hopkins, a former teammate of Autry's at Syracuse. Then he talked with Boeheim.

"He said get involved with a good high school or AAU program,'' Autry said. "He said you should be coaching somewhere where people will see you and remember you.''

Autry went back to Northern Virginia and got a job as an assistant coach at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va. But he still kept his job as a settlement manager.

"I did real estate and basketball,'' Autry said. "I was working early in the morning to late at night. I had a very understanding boss, who let me do the coaching as long as I got my work done, but it was a hard year.''

Around that time, Autry got an interview with Jim Larranaga, the coach at Miami who was at George Mason University at the time.

"Do you know these AAU programs?'' Larranaga asked. Autry did not. Larranaga asked if Autry knew some of the area's top movers-and-shakers in the AAU circles. Autry did not.

"He said before you start, you need to know those guys,'' Autry recalled. "You need to establish relationships to have a recruiting base.''

One of the names Larranaga mentioned was Keith Stevens, who was with an AAU outfit called Triple Threat. That spring, Autry was working with the 15-and-under squad for NOVA (Northern Virginia) United's AAU team. His team played a group from Triple Threat. The other coach was Keith Stevens.

"I was, like, oh, that's Keith Stevens,'' Autry said.

Autry and Stevens connected. Stevens wondered if Autry would come over to Triple Threat, which would evolve into what is now known as Team Takeover. Stevens knew Autry's name and background would resonate with players and coaches.

"The first question he asked me was 'What are you trying to do with AAU coaching?'' Autry said. "He wanted to know if I wanted to coach at the college level. And I said not really. Right now, I just want to coach.''

Autry worked with Team Takeover in the spring and summer of 2008. By that time, he had also taken a job as an assistant at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va.

One day that summer, Stevens called Autry with some news.

"Something's about to open up at Virginia Tech,'' Stevens said. "It's a basketball operations job. It's not a lot of money, but it's an opportunity.''

Between his New York City roots and his background in the Washington D.C. AAU scene, Autry has recruited the likes of Jerami Grant, Michael Gbinije, Tyler Ennis, B.J. Johnson and incoming recruit Chris McCullough to Syracuse.

He's home now, coaching at his alma mater. His boss is his former coach and one of his co-workers is a former teammate.
