POWERADE FAB 50 Rankings: Preseason

Oak Hill Academy

If the Warriors win their early season showdown against No. 2 Miller Grove, they would be set up to perhaps add more big early wins at the Chick-Fil-A Classic in South Carolina and the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon. Guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (6-3, Sr.), who is No. 45 in the ESPNU 100, UCLA-bound Jordan Adams (6-5, Sr.) and N.C. State-bound Tyler Lewis (5-11, Sr.) lead a group that coach Steve Smith calls "much deeper than last year and very athletic."

The Mustangs celebrated last year's National High School Invitational title as a national championship. Not many are scoffing at the notion, but the common opponent factor (a loss to Linden, N.J.) made St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.) the FAB 50 No. 1 team. Coach Stu Vetter again has a loaded roster, including ESPNHS Underclass All-American SF Justin Anderson (6-7, Sr.), rugged PF Michael Carrera (6-6, Sr.) and highly-regarded transfer SF Ishmael Wainwright (6-6, Jr.). The play of Yuki Togoshi (5-7, Jr.) will be key because graduated guard Tyrone Johnson was key to the Mustangs' post-season success.

DeMatha Catholic
Hyattsville, MD
#13
29-7 Last Season
The Stags closed fast last season by winning the prestigious Alhambra Tournament in Maryland with an underclass-led roster. Key returnees are SG James Robinson (6-3, Sr.), WF Jerami Grant (6-7, Sr.), PF BeeJay Anya (6-8, Jr.) and PG Jairus Lyles (6-1, Jr.). DeMatha should be ready to match up with the nation's powers and will play many of them in tournaments and showcases

Six talented Purple Eagles return from last year's underclass-led squad that impressed in intersectional competition. Running the show will be left-handed PG Nate Britt (6-1, Jr.), last year's D.C. Gatorade Player of the Year. He's joined by WF Kris Jenkins (6-6, Jr.). F-C Will Rassman (6-7, Sr.) and WG Charles Glover (6-2, Jr.). A slow start might occur with as a couple of returning players nursing knee injuries.
