Howard received a text message from Alex Kline, the director of the Mary Kline Classic high school all-star event.

"He asked me how my leg was doing,'' Howard said. "I said it was feeling better.''

Kline then extended Howard an invitation to play in the Mary Kline Classic's underclassmen game this Saturday at West Orange (N.J.) High School.

"He invited me last year, but I wasn't able to go,'' Howard said. "I was excited to get another opportunity. It's a great event and it supports a great cause.''

Howard committed to Syracuse last month, choosing the Orange over offers from Ohio State, Virginia, Maryland, Georgetown and North Carolina State.

On Saturday, Howard will take his knee out for another spin on the road to recovery.

"Physically, I feel great,'' he said. The knee feels good. A little soreness, but I feel like I'm ready to go. I feel comfortable. I'm easing back into it. I feel great transitioning back into playing.''

I first started playing when I was 3 years old.

What teams did you play for - boys club, middle school, junior high school, AAU etc.?
I've always grown up playing in a boys & girls club alongside AAU w/ Prince William Pacers, Fairfax Stars, Herndon Hornets, Hokies Elite. Also Boo Williams on the EYBL circuit.
I attended middle school at Parkside Middle School in Manassas, VA then left for high school and stayed 2 years at Montrose. Now I'm at Saint James!!

Who are your closets friends in basketball?
All my teammates currently, and too many to name, sports build unbelievable relationships

What is it like playing for such a  highly competitive school ?
It's a blessing to play for a highly competitive school, because every day in practice you are playing with and against great players. Making you a better player and person.

Who is or was your biggest influence in basketball?
My influence has always been my family members, they've always kept me up when I started to fall down.

Who is you favorite basketball player on any level?
In the past, my favorite player was Allen Iverson, currently, it is Kevin Durant or Chris Paul.

If you could play any NBA player 1-on-1 - who would it be?
If I could any NBA player 1 on 1 it would have to be Russell Westbrook.

Your AAU team is very successful and loaded with talent  how do you guys continue to push each other?
As a team we are a family, and we keep each other up by supporting each other on and off the court, just a group of great guys.

What have you learned from playing with the other Division 1 talent on your HS. team?
I've learned that everyone on the next level will be good, so you have to outwork your opponent, no days can be taken off.

When you work out - what are some of the things you focus on?
When I workout, I work on all aspects of my games, offense and defense, because I have to improve in every category, I want to be the best player I can possibly be.

The Manassas, VA. native plays for St. James School where he's garnered quite a bit of national attention. ESPN lists him as a four star recruit that's the 10th best point guard and the top player in Maryland in their rankings.

Robinson has earned an impressive number of scholarship offers already with high major programs like Illinois, Maryland, Memphis, Xavier and UNLV all in the mix. Virginia Tech's Buzz Williams offered at the end of March. That's several weeks before offers from Maryland, Temple, Illinois, Memphis, George Washington, UNLV and Penn State.

Robinson plays AAU ball for Boo Williams in the Nike EYBL session in Minneapolis, MN. Despite playing on a star-studded team, he's managed to attract plenty of attention himself without forcing things too much.

Oladipo, who was playing point guard for the first time in his career, posted averages of 13.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.

When Oladipo was on the court, the Magic limited opponents to 102.7 points per 100 possessions, according to the NBA’s official statistics database. When Oladipo was on the bench, the Magic were much less effective on defense, allowing teams to score 108.5 points per 100 possessions.

Oladipo’s focus on the defensive end of the court was a primary reason why Magic officials decided to play him at point guard.

“He was able to sustain the ups and downs of a rookie season, of being able to bounce back from a game that he wasn’t pleased with, to be able to have multiple games where he played extremely well,” Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said shortly after the season ended.

“There was a tremendous amount of learning that took place, and he’s in a good place right now.”

HOUSTON ROCKETS GUARD - TROY DANIELS CONTINUES HIS DREAM - ALL-MET ELITE

CONTINUES HIS DREAM

WILLIAM FLEMING HS.
ROANOKE VA.

One month after making the winning 3-pointer in an NBA playoff game, Troy Daniels was launching jumpers in the William Fleming High School gym Tuesday night.

In a whirlwind 12 months, the William Fleming and Virginia Commonwealth graduate has gone from being bypassed in the NBA draft to toiling in the NBA Development League to making a national splash as a rookie guard with the Houston Rockets.

“All my dreams have come true,” Daniels, 22, said in an interview at the gym. “I’ve got to get new dreams now.

“The hardest thing about being in the NBA is staying in the NBA, so you’ve always got to work on your game,” he said. “I’m focused on this summer and getting better and fulfilling my dreams again.”

The 6-foot-4 Daniels is an off-guard, but he said the Rockets want him to work on his point-guard skills this summer so they can give him some playing time at that position as well.

Daniels signed a two-year contract with the Rockets in February. The second year is not guaranteed, but Daniels hopes the team will soon upgrade him to a guaranteed salary for the upcoming season.

“Hopefully they don’t let me go,” he said. “The summer league will be big for me.”

Daniels spent most of this season with the Rockets’ NBA Development League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

“It kind of brought me down to earth,” he said. “It made me into the man I am today, so I appreciate the D-League.

“The pay, where you’re staying, the way you travel to different games, it really humbles you.”

“I’ve done everything I pretty much wanted to do as a kid,” he said. “I wanted to have a deal with Nike; I have a deal with Nike. I wanted to play in the NBA; I’ve played in the NBA.

“Now I’ve just got to have more dreams and try to achieve them again.”

Teammate James Harden told him he should try to lead the NBA in 3-pointers next season, so that is one of the new dreams. Daniels also wants to stay in the NBA for at least 10 years.

“Guys dream about making it to the NBA. Now I’m dreaming about staying in the NBA,” he said.

What have you learned from playing with the other Division 1 talent on your HS. team?
Playing with Dion Wiley I’ve  learned the little things to the game everyone can pass, score, shoot but he has taught  me things that have changed the outcomes of  GAMES! Such as talking on defense and taking charges, so everything he has told me I take into consideration and add to my arsenal I know he's about to go play at the college level so there's definitely tips I can use from both Dion and Quadree.

When you work out - what are some of the things you focus on?
When I workout - I love to focus on my craft as a player whether it's my shooting form, ball handling, and  my defense,  I try to focus  defensively on sliding my feet in my defensive stance,  I always  feel the need to try to improve on that each time I'm in the gym.

Bonus question

Basketball Goals : I want to play Major Division 1 basketball and to learn from anyone that's been my in shoes before because nothing's better than the advice guys can give you especially if they've been in your shoes.

One of my favorite lists from “The Great Book of Washington, D.C. Sports Lists”, which I co-authored with Len Shapiro is, “Tale of the Tape:  The Two Greatest High School Basketball Games in Area History.”  It compares DeMatha’s 46-43 upset of Power Memorial in 1965 versus Montrose Christian’s 74-72 win over Oak Hill in 2006.  I wrote that comparison in 2008 when many of the participants in the Montrose game were still in college.  I was at that game with my son and we’ve often talked over the years about how many great players we saw on the court that night.

Eight years later, with every player on the rosters having completed their college eligibility, I thought it would be fun to find out what became of those players.  It’s remarkable how much talent was on the floor of Coolidge High School that March night in 2006.   Between the two teams, there were five first-round NBA picks, including two number two’s overall.  Eighteen of the players went on to play at Division I schools, most ending up as starters.  And many of them went on to play professionally somewhere.

The game itself was a classic, with Montrose beating Oak Hill at the buzzer on a shot by Adrian Bowie.  It ended Oak Hill’s 56-game win streak.  But that’s the beginning of this story, not the end.  Here is what became of the rosters of the two teams in the years that followed.

NBA
 ALL-MET ELITE
The NBA and Adidas are teaming up to sell “We Are One” shirts, the idea for which was born out of the Donald Sterling controversy. The Clippers website changed their homepage to “We Are One” when Adam Silver handed down his lifetime ban of Sterling, and now that concept has been turned into a commodity. All proceeds will go to “anti-discrimination and tolerance organizations,” so the league will turn no profit.

In order to use the phrase, the league signed an agreement with We R One, a clothing company out of Washington D.C. that owns the trademark. Former NBA players and DC/Baltimore area natives Steve Francis, Sam Cassell are partners in the company.

The T-shirts come in four different styles. There are "We Are One" shirts in a men's style of shirt with either the NBA or Clippers' logo on it under the lettering of the slogan. There is also a women's cut with the Clippers' logo on it and a youth style with the Clippers' logo on it. The men's styles sell for $23.95 each, the women's style sells for $29.95, and the youth shirt sells for $19.95.

Last week, the Friends of Maryland Basketball held its annual banquet at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda. When Mark Turgeon spoke, he introduced his coaching staff — including new director of basketball operations Cliff Warren — and thanked fans for their support.

Then everyone watched a video. It showed highlights of Trimble, the McDonald’s all-American at O’Connell High who will ride the crest of the latest wave of expectations for the program, especially in the wake of Allen’s transfer.

The night Allen first told Turgeon he wanted to leave, Turgeon called Trimble and told him to be ready. Once Trimble came to campus on June 2, he would be the starting point guard, tasked with adjusting to college life, running the offense better than his predecessors and handling the pressure associated with someone of his caliber.

“It makes me want to enter school right now,” Trimble said.
