Lebron James effectively conceded the MVP to Durant last week, and with good reason: Save for a brief stretch at the end of February, Durant has been consistently dominant. He led the NBA in scoring (career best 31.9 points with one game to play) and surpassed Michael Jordan’s record for consecutive 25-point games (41).

He is as complete as he has been at any point in his career and gets bonus points for putting OKC on his back during Russell Westbrooks extended absence. Ask any scout: James is still the best player in basketball. Same scouts: Durant is having the best season.

FAIRFAX VA.

Frank Howard, the 6-foot-6 combination guard from Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Va., has selected Syracuse as his college basketball destination.

Howard, a high school junior, made a verbal commitment to the Orange during a television appearance on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Monday night. He picked SU from a final list that included Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia, N.C. State and Ohio State.

He cited Jim Boeheim and Syracuse's ability to develop guards among his reasons for picking the Orange.

"Basically, just the family environment," Howard said. "I wanted to [see] a little campus life around the basketball program, a very strong fan base and basically somewhere I'd want to be for four years."

"I got a chance to see practice and tour the school. I felt comfortable right then. I loved it," Howard said. "I took a while to officially (make the decision) because I wanted to take other visits.''

Howard was recruited primarily by SU assistant Adrian Autry, who was once an assistant at Paul VI. Autry also coached on the AAU level for Team Takeover, a program that produced Jerami Grant, Michael Gbinije and now Frank Howard.

"Coach Red says I play a lot like him," Howard said. "We have a great relationship. We can talk about anything. It's a very comfortable situation for me.''

BETHEL HS.
HAMPTON VA.

Iverson is the ultimate legacy of NBA legend Allen Iverson, who rose from a childhood of crushing poverty in Hampton, Virginia to one of the sports’ greatest success stories as Iverson went on to become an 11-time NBA all star and universally recognized icon of his sport. Off the court, his audacious rejection of conservative NBA convention and unapologetic embrace of hip hop culture sent shockwaves throughout the league and influenced an entire generation. Told largely in his own words, Iverson charts the career highs and lows of one of the most distinctive and accomplished figures the sport of basketball has ever seen.

“Iverson” will debut on April 27, tickets went on sale (Tuesday), however they are already sold out.

According to Iverson's Twitter account, however, they are hoping to find a larger venue at the fest to accommodate more people.

The Mary Kline Classic is a charity high school basketball all-star event put on in honor of the late Mary Kline, as well as anyone else who has lost their life to, or is currently battling, any form of cancer.

The one-day event, which is hosted during the spring, has taken place three times, and features an underclassmen game (top sophomores & juniors), senior game, three-point shootout and slam dunk contest.

All proceeds benefit the National Brain Tumor Society and Brain Tumor Research at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Over the past three years, the MKC has raised a total of $55,000 for cancer research, with $27,000 coming in 2013.

This event is a way for high school basketball players to show that they play for a purpose and are not one dimensional. The objective is for this community outreach to show how powerful the game of high school basketball has become in order to raise awareness, as well as funds, for cancer research.

RODDY PETERS SET TO TRANSFER FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND - ALL-MET ELITE

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND
 ALL-MET ELITE

SUITLAND HS.
SUITLAND MD.

Maryland has granted a release to Roddy Peters as he has decided to transfer from the program, according to a report from Jeff Ermann of InsideMDSports.com on Tuesday evening.

Peters, the freshman guard who enrolled at Maryland as a four-star recruit according to Rivals, averaged 4.1 points, 1.3 boards and dished 2.3 assists per game. Peters struggled to find a rhythm during his freshman season after graduating from Suitland High School as a highly touted recruit. ESPN rated Peters as the 52nd-best prospect in the 2013 class and the 12th-best point guard.

His role will be filled by incoming freshman Melo Trimble, another four-star point guard.

“I really enjoyed coaching Nick, Shaq and Roddy,” head coach Mark Turgeon said. “It is unfortunate that they will no longer be a part of the program. I wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”.

Turgeon was going to be over the scholarship limit next season, so the writing was on the wall in College Park that a couple of players could be in trouble.

Faust, Cleare and Peters were the top-rated recruits in each of the three freshman classes Turgeon has coached in College Park.

Before the trio decided to transfer, the Terps had 14 players projected to be on scholarship for the 2014-15 season, one more than the NCAA limit. The Terps, who haven’t qualified for the NCAA tournament since 2010, are now committed to six scholarship players returning from last season and five incoming scholarship freshmen.

KEVIN DURANT TIES MICHAEL JORDANS 40 GAMES OF 25+ POINTS - ALL-MET ELITE

MICHAEL JORDAN'S
 40 GAMES OF  25+ POINTS

MONTROSE CHRISTIAN HS.

Not Shaq. Not Kobe Bryant. Not LeBron James. Not Dirk Nowitzki.

No scorer since Michael Jordan has scored 25 or more points in 40 consecutive games like Kevin Durant did, not since Michael Jordan. KD tied that record with 28 points on 7-of-19 shooting in a game the Thunder lost to the Rockets Friday night (because James Harden went off for 39 points).

The NBA’s scoring leader tallied 28 points (on 7-for-19 shooting), 12 rebounds and six assists against Houston. He was stuck on 22 points until the game’s final minute, when he connected on two three-pointers to push him over the top. Durant, a five-time All-Star is on track for his fourth career scoring title and is considered by many to be the favorite to win the 2014 MVP award.
”We lost the game, that’s all I’m worried about,” he said of the streak, according to the Associated Press. ”I don’t care. We lost.”

Durant entered Friday’s action averaging a career-high 32.1 points per game, the highest mark since Lakers guard Kobe Bryant averaged 35.4 points and Sixers guard Allen Iverson averaged 33 points during the 2005-06 season.

Jordan scored at least 25 points in 40 straight games during the 1986-87 season, his third year in the league. That year, Jordan’s age-23 season, he averaged a career-high 37.1 points per game, the highest mark by any player since 1963. Jordan’s 3,041 points that season also marked a career-high, and they are the most points anyone besides Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain has scored in a season. Jordan was not selected as the 1987 MVP, losing out to Lakers legend Magic Johnson, but he was an All-Star and an All-NBA First Team selection. The following year, Jordan won the first of his five career MVP awards.

Durant will have a chance to eclipse Jordan’s record on Sunday, when the Thunder visit the Suns on Sunday. If Durant’s streak continues for the rest of the Thunder’s season, and he plays in every game, it would reach 47 games, passing Robertson.

If we had to predict the next McDonalds All-American from the D.C. region who would it be?

We would select Joe Hampton from Dematha HS. in Hyattsville Md.

He is already first team ALL- WCAC as a soph and his name has been buzzing on the AAU/camp  scene for sometime.

His Division one offers are likely to explode with two years left at Dematha.

 ROMELO TRIMBLE
 ALL-MET ELITE

BISHOP O'CONNELL HS.
ARLINGTON VA.

The future Maryland Terrapins combo guard had his offensive game working this morning as he scored from a variety of areas on the court. Trimble is known for his scoring prowess and he showed why, in both the 5 on 5 half-court and full-court scrimmages. Going against Duke Blue Devils signee Tyus Jones, Trimble was able to get a step on Jones on occasion and used his powerful shoulders to keep the smaller Jones on his hip. Trimble finished at the rim with right handed lay-ups and he also dropped in a soft floater from around eight feet. He also knocked in a three from the wing capping an extremely productive morning practice session. This past season he was one of the best, if not the best player, in the DC area and is now continuing his high scoring ways against the top players in the

Although Trimble is coming in as one of the lowest ranked McDonalds All Americans, he has shown that he belongs among the elite point guards in this class. At 190 lbs, he is powerfully built and uses his strength to penetrate the lane. Most impressive has been his decision making as he rarely turns the ball over and never seems to force the big play. Trimble should be an immediate starter for Maryland and will make Terps fans forget about some of the poor guard play they saw this past season.

CAN FRANKLIN HOWARD PAUL VI. PLAY POINT GUARD IN COLLEGE ?

CAN
 FRANKLIN HOWARD
PAUL VI.
PLAY POINT GUARD
IN
COLLEGE?

PAUL VI. HS.
FAIRFAX VA.

Howard, a 6-foot-4 guard who plays for Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Va., includes Syracuse among his final suitors.

Howard, a four-star prospect according to various recruiting services, tore his ACL during the summer league circuit last season and is easing his way back onto the basketball court. He has been described as a shooting guard and a point guard. His AAU coach, Keith Stevens, said Howard's passing skills, combined with the volume of guards in the Team Takeover program, made Howard primarily a point guard.

"He's definitely a point guard," Stevens said. "He's a very good passer. He has a very good feel for the game, he's athletic and he makes shots."

Stevens said Howard "is close" to returning to 100 percent physically after rehabbing from the ACL tear. He missed his entire junior season at Paul VI.

"We're not going to rush him back," Stevens said. "It's a slow process."

ALL-MET ELITE - Just a thought to consider - prep after Paul VI. - prior to college freshman year, will definitely makeup for lost time since missing junior year. Additional time to improve skill wise, continue to rehab, develop physically, and learn, play new position.
