Stanford Robinson’s who competed at Findlay Prep (Nev.) after transferring from Paul VI last year, scored 19 points to help the U.S. All-Stars build a 15-point lead in the third quarter. But the Capital All-Stars rallied behind the play of Princeton Day’s Aquille Carr (game-high 29 points) and Montrose Christian’s Ishmail Wainright to tie the game at 111 with two minutes remaining.

Ultimately, it wasn’t enough. Mount St. Joseph’s Kameron Williams drained three three-pointers in the fourth period to secure the U.S. win and earn MVP honors behind his team-high 25 points. Williams will play at Ohio State next season.

WASHINGTON D.C.

Indiana’s recruiting presence in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area, also known as the DMV, has been strong since Tom Crean arrived in Bloomington in the spring of 2008.

At 6-foot-2 and 175-pounds, Crawford had the opportunity to take over the point guard duties this past high school season after Nate Britt, a North Carolina signee, transferred to Oak Hill Academy for his senior season.
Crawford handled the responsibilities well, averaging 8.6 points for a team that finished 27-5 and went undefeated in WCAC regular-season play.

Indiana was one of the first offers for Crawford and remains high on his list.

“They’re recruiting me pretty hard. I talk to them often. I saw them at open gyms, practices and games,” Crawford said. “The coaches there have showed they believe in me and they want me a lot.

They have faith in me and just want to see me improve and become better as a player and as a person.”

He’s already taken a pair of unofficial visits to Bloomington. The first was last August when IU offered a scholarship and the second was for Hoosier Hysteria, which was an experience that made an impact. While the recruiting process is still in its early stages for Crawford, it’s clear Indiana is a major player.

“They’re one of the schools recruiting me the hardest,” he said. “They’ve been there since they offered.”

Don’t you know I’m trying to destroy the guy every time I go on the court?’

“I was the second-best player in high school. I was the second pick in the draft. I’ve been second in the MVP voting three times. I came in second in the Finals. I’m tired of being second. I’m not going to settle for that. I’m done with it.”

The Team Takeover (Md.) Under-17 team, one of the top programs on the Nike circuit, is home to several players in whom the Maryland coaching staff is seriously interested. Takeover established itself as a team to be reckoned with once again this weekend at the Nike EYBL tournament in Los Angeles by going 4-0, and IMS had several sets of eyes on the scene.

Phil Booth, Team Takeover: Booth, who took an unofficial visit to Bloomington for the Michigan game last February and said he expects to be back this fall for an official visit, left Los Angeles with Team Takeover unbeaten in EYBL play at 4-0. Booth averaged 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 22.0 minutes per game.

Marcus Derrickson, Team Takeover: Derrickson, a 6-6 forward from Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, Virginia, is one of IU’s primary 2015 targets and took an unofficial visit with his high school coach, Glenn Farello, for the regular season home finale against Ohio State. In Los Angeles, Derrickson played just 13.8 minutes per game, but averaged 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds. In late March, Derrickson told the Washington Post that he’s taking time with his recruitment, which already includes offers from more than 16 schools.

2014 point guard Romelo Trimble. A strong guard with the ability to play either backcourt spot, Trimble has a mature floor game and is a vocal leader, traits that will come in handy during his transition to college.
Against a smaller but quicker guard in Snider, Trimble was forced to use his strength and length to try to keep Snider out of the lane, leading to mixed results. On offense, Trimble was much more efficient, knocking down long shots from behind the arc and making smart decisions with the ball to set up teammates for open shots. He's not the quickest player, but as a lead guard who rarely turns the ball over, Trimble is every bit a four-star guard who should be ready to play early in his college career.
Maryland has received an early commitment from Trimble, and staff members from the Terrapins were in the gym Friday night to monitor his progress.

Arinze Onuaku wound up being a great asset to Syracuse several years ago. Now, his brother, Chinanu Onuaka, has the chance to do the same thing. The 2014 center from Riverdale Baptist (MD) is still very much so raw on the offensive end of the game, but he posses the body of a high-major big man with his 6-foot-11 frame, as well as a many similar traits to his older brother. The 2014 big is listing strong interest from the likes of Seton Hall, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Maryland and Virginia Tech, with others taking a look. Kansas State, who landed a commitment from his teammate Nigel Johnson on Saturday, will likely become heavily involved in the near future due to their strong ties in the DMV area.

Tariq Owens of BMores's Finest has been promising ever since breaking onto the scene last July. The 2014 St. Vincent Pallotti (MD) power forward has a good feel for the game overall and has continued to work on his flaws on the court. Gifted with length, an improving mid-range jumper and some very athletic finishes on both sides of the ball, he is closing in on a decision soon. Considering Temple, VCU, Miami, Georgetown, Cincinnati and others, the original plan was to make a college decision before the spring was over. If he continues to play well, his stock could rise higher and new schools would come in. This could be a positive dilemma in Owens' college recruitment.

After making his name known at Reebok Breakout Camp last July, offers and interest shot up for Devin Robinson. As he was primarily a power forward at that time, the 2014 Christchurch (VA) prospect is developing into a combo forward with the mentality of implementing as many wing skills as he can into his game.

An improved rebounder, whose handle is getting better over time, Robinson is running with the Richmond Squires (VA) and has the green light. Cincinnati, Auburn and Clemson, among others, were in attendance to see him on Friday.

At 6-foot-7 now, he holds offers from Auburn, Gardner-Webb, Xavier, Boston, Rutgers, VCU, George Mason, Virginia Tech, Towson and UConn. VCU is coming on the strongest, while Robinson hopes to check out the campuses of UConn and Xavier in the near future.

If he continues to improve, look for Robinson's offer list to continue to expand throughout the spring and summer.

“VCU’s coming after me the hardest,” Robinson said of Shaka Smart’s program. “They play a lot of good D, they get up and down the floor, they shoot a lot of threes. They play hard.”
VCU may have some competition after the way that Robinson played in the Pitt Hoop Group Jam Fest on Saturday. Squires knocked off Philly Pride before losing to a loaded Atlanta Xpress, and Robinson played great. He was knocked down threes, he was blocking shots around the rim, he was beating top 50 center Trayvon Reed for offensive rebounds, and he showed that he could use the dribble to create shots.

Kaleb Johnson could be a very special option. With the plan to reclassify from 2014 to 2015, the Parkview (VA) guard is 6-foot-6 with plenty of upside as a combo guard. Radford, Xavier, Yale, Quinnipiac and Georgia State have expressed interest in Johnson, who will likely wind up at Carslisle School (VA). His handle and ability to play the guard position for the Richmond Squires (VA) this year will help him greatly.

Thomas had previously committed to George Washington but recently reopened his recruitment, drawing interest from Missouri as well as K-State.

Unless Kevin Durant erupts for 70 points in the OKC Thunder’s regular season finale tonight, his run of three consecutive scoring titles will come to an end. Carmelo Anthony—the current scoring leader in the NBA, and expected to sit out the New York’s final game—likely has nothing to worry about. Per the Oklahoman: “He has no shot,’ Thunder coach Scott Brooks said, half-jokingly, of Durant. ‘I guarantee you he won’t get it.’ Brooks, though, would know. He’s the man controlling the distribution of minutes, and he said Durant and the rest of the team’s regulars ‘are going to play very limited minutes’ in the season finale. It will bring an end to a three-year run Durant has enjoyed as the league’s scoring champion

DC ASSAULT FOUNDER CURTIS MALONE OFFERS INSIGHT ON RUTGERS NEW HEAD COACH EDDIE JORDAN - ALL-MET ELITE

DC ASSAULT FOUNDER
CURTIS MALONE
OFFERS INSIGHT ON
RUTGERS
NEW HEAD COACH
EDDIE JORDAN
ALL-MET ELITE

ARCHBISHOP CAROLL HS.
WASHINGTON D.C.

Last year, Eddie Jordan was pretty far from the NBA bench in Los Angeles where he has been working this season. He was back home, in Washington, D.C., coaching the 17-under team for the well-known AAU program DC Assault, as well as the freshman team at his alma mater, Archbishop Carroll High School.

"That has to say a lot about a guy, who is willing to deal with some kids who probably had a low IQ for the game," DC Assault founder Curtis Malone said of Jordan's gig at Archbishop Carroll. "He's just a great person who loves kids. He's a genuine guy. Great, great guy."

As the president of the DC Assault, Malone had the chance to observe Jordan's teaching methods up close. The ex-head coach of three NBA franchises, including the hometown Wizards, Jordan didn't have a prior connection with any ,member of his roster, but Malone said he treated and instructed all players equally.

He's a big time fundamental guy. He believes in coaching the game the way it's supposed to be played," Malone said. "He's a perfectionist. He wants it to be done right. He wants the kids to understand how the game is played. You just don't get that as much in today's society. When you look at SportsCenter, all you see is 3-point shots and dunks in highlights. He's a guy that teaches the game."

"I'm quite sure that Eddie's a bright enough coach that he can adjust to any situation that he feels like he needs to," Malone said. "He's a bright guy who understands it and I think he can really do anything and make it right for the kids and make the system work.

"One thing with running the Princeton, even with coaching DC Assault, he allowed the players freedom. It wasn't just 'cut backdoor." I just think that with anything, if you get the right players, it can work on any level. I think that's been proven by a lot of successful coaches. I just think you have to be able to add a couple of different components to your offense according to the players you have. I think Eddie's good enough to realize what he needs to do and what he can't do."

Assuming he is hired, given his natural ties to the DC, Maryland, Virginia areas, Jordan will likely be a boon for Rutgers in mining those territories for talent. The key for him will then be cultivating relationships within the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia corridor and using them to pluck players to help his program.

It's a task Jordan likely wouldn't be undertaking alone.

"I think that most guys who take jobs, I think you can be a great coach but I believe that you have to hire and make sure you pick the right staff," Malone said. "I think that's most important. With most schools that are successful, most of their guys can go and recruit in a lot of different areas. Or you have a guy or two who specializes in one or two areas. I think that will come down to--if he gets the job--who he would hire on his staff who has the ties to these areas that he needs to recruit in."

"He will be successful. He would be successful if he was at a Division V school, a place that doesn't exist, because of his passion and the mind he has for the game."

Strengths: Peters, who flew under the radar until he lit up the AAU circuit following his junior season, is rapidly improving. He is slowly learning how to play point guard, and once he does make the full transition, he has tremendous size and athleticism for the position.
Peters has a very solid handle for his size and can attack off the dribble with either a shot, pass or drive.
It will be intriguing to see how Peters bounces back from his injury when he rejoins the AAU DC Assault.
2014 Role: Peters has a realistic opportunity to start at the point from day one. He should receive major minutes from the get-go.

As the media swarmed around them, players said they felt their voices have not been heard since the April 3 firing of coach Mike Rice, who was shown on video clips physically abusing and yelling gay slurs and profanities at members of his team.
"We all decided to come together and let our voice be heard," said Kadeem Jack, one of the players.

Cox represents the support and strength the team needs at this point, said forward Wally Judge. Austin Johnson also was at Winants Hall.
The players spoke briefly and did not take questions from reporters.
Susan Kelley, mother of Logan Kelley, read a brief statement in support of Cox.
"Coach Cox needs to stay on as coach and steady hand in the rebuilding of the men's basketball program," she said.

Cox was Rice's first hire after he got the Rutgers job in 2010 and has some of the deepest recruiting ties on the East Coast -- having previously been a coach with DC Assault, a Washington, D.C., area AAU program.

Cox has 16 years of coaching experience and four seasons of collegiate playing experience on his resume. He enters his seventh straight season working in the BIG EAST Conference.
Cox served under head coach John Thompson III from 2007-08 to 2009-10, helping the Hoyas to a trio of post-season appearances, including NCAA Tournament berths in 2008 and 2010.

Prior to his position in the nation’s capital, Cox was director of basketball operations for head coach Jamie Dixon at the University of Pittsburgh in 2006-07. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, served as a liaison to athletic department officials and coordinated practice, game day and daily schedules. During his season with the Panthers, Cox worked alongside Rice, who was an assistant coach.

Cox spent seven years as an assistant principal at his alma mater, St. John’s Preparatory High School, in Washington, D.C. His many duties at SJPHS from 1999-2006 included oversight of the school’s athletic department, supervision of all extra-curricular activities and serving as school disciplinarian.

Cox first coached at the high school level at Archbishop Carroll in Washington, D.C., where he was an assistant from 1996 to 1999.

Cox began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Washington D.C. Assault AAU program. He helped guide the team to the under-16 national championship in 2004. In assisting D.C. Assault head coach Curtis Malone, several of his players earned college scholarships, including Tre Kelley (South Carolina), Chris McCray (Maryland), Michael Beasley (Kansas State/Miami Heat), Nolan Smith (Duke/Portland Trail Blazers), Dante Cunningham (Villanova/Portland Trail Blazers), Arinze Onuaku (Syracuse) and Adrian Bowie (Maryland).

Ayers was the state’s leading scorer, averaging 27.5 points per game.

Summers County’s TaRon Ayers won the award,
“TaRon’s an offensive machine,” now retired Bobcats coach James “Pistol” Payne said. “You can’t keep him from getting shots.”

Ayers transferred to Summers County this season from Woodrow Wilson to be closer to his family — brother Jaquan Ayers and cousins TJ Smith and Isaiah Brown.

“It was a memorable season for me,” Ayers said. “This is where my family’s from, and to get to play here was a big thing for me.”

Ayers utilized a slashing and dashing offense, penetrating defenses for acrobatic buckets in the transition, while also having a deadly outside scoring game.

“Taron is very quick. He’s a great penetrator,” Payne said. “He looks to get others involved as much as possible, but if we’ve made a couple trips down the court without a bucket, he’s going to pick up the slack and put the ball in himself.”

“I knew TaRon had tremendous upside. It was great to have him in Summers County. The only thing I would change is I wish we would have had him for one more season,” Payne said.

In fact, the junior has played his final game in a Bobcats uniform. Facing concerns about eligibility requirements in 2014 due to age, Ayers has chosen to end his time at Summers County and continue his career at a yet to be decided prep school.

“It was tough,” Ayers said on making the decision. “They (WVSSAC) didn’t rule me ineligible for next season, but my family and I thought it would be great for me to go to a prep school and get better.”

Payne echoed those sentiments.

“I think it’s a real good move for him,” he said. “I think it’s what he needs to do. There’s no telling how good TaRon can be. It’s so easy for him. It’s really hard to tell.”

Stanford Robinson Findlay Prep - ALL- MET ELITE

Stanford Robinson
 Findlay Prep
ALL-MET ELITE

Stanford Robinson's Findlay Prep (Las Vegas) team could fairly be described as "loaded." The 6'4" guard has a trio of teammates joining him in the ESPN 100, and they've committed to Washington (Nigel Williams-Goss), UCLA (Allerik Freeman) and UNLV (Christian Wood).

With all that talent, it's often difficult for Robinson to stand out, but he ended the regular season on a high note, racking up 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the Pilots' finale on Feb. 27.

Findlay will attempt to win its second consecutive National High School Invitational title, third in the event's five-year history, starting April 4 in North Bethesda, Md. The Pilots are the top seed and open with Montrose Christian of Maryland.

If both teams advance to the finals, Robinson could find himself guarding future IU teammate Troy Williams of Oak Hill Academy. As noted on Williams' slide, all NHSI games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.

Two weeks later, Robinson will join most of his future Hoosier classmates at the Kentucky Derby Festival Classic.
