Taron Oliver a 6-foot-9 sophomore from Bell (Washington, D.C.), is transferring to national

basketball powerhouse Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.), the Washington Post announced on Friday.

Oliver, who averaged 13.4 points as a freshman, is switching schools to advance his development, according to his father, Taron Oliver Sr.

He told the Post, "It's just a more experienced staff, a better opportunity as far as academics. (Montrose is) going to give him one-on-one attention, and they've just got a little more to offer than (public schools) right now. You really can't take a kid to another level, to compete on a national level, if you don't get in the weight room. They've got a guy (Matt Johnson) there who's one of the best in the country.and he's going to dedicate to twice a day."

Oliver already has a scholarship offer from South Florida, while Indiana and Virginia have been watching him closely during the summer AAU campaign.

NIGEL JOHNSON TRANSFERS TO RIVERDALE BAPTIST - ALL-MET ELITE

Broad Run point guard Nigel Johnson, the area’s leading scorer last winter, has transferred to Riverdale Baptist for his senior season.
The explosive point guard averaged 29.5 points per game as a junior and carried the Spartans to the Northwest Region playoffs in their inaugural season in Virginia’s AAA classification.
But as one of the area’s top back-court recruits, Johnson’s desire to polish his game in preparation for the rigors of Division I college basketball drove him to Upper Marlboro.
Johnson, who played at Paul VI as a freshman before transferring to Broad Run, averaged 8.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and nearly four steals per game. He eclipsed 30 points 11 times and closed the season with a flurry of offensive outbursts that included a 55-point explosion in an overtime loss to Osbourn. Johnson terrorized defenses in the Cedar Run District with his ability to get to the rim or pull up for jump shots, and his knack for scoring earned him league player of the year and second-team All-Met honors. This summer he played for DC Assault alongside North Carolina recruit and recent Oak Hill Academy transfer Nate Britt.

Johnson’s current offer list includes George Washington, American, Bucknell, Cornell, William & Mary, Bucknell, Northeastern, Brown, Princeton, Lehigh, Robert Morris, Delaware, Drexel, UNC Greensboro, Florida International and Quinnipiac.

VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY
 ALL-MET ELITE

Villanova men’s basketball picked up its first commitment for the freshman class of 2013 on Sunday when 6-foot-6 forward Kris Jenkins informed Wildcats coach Jay Wright he had accepted his scholarship offer, according to several web sites.
The 235-pound Jenkins, who can play either forward position, was ranked 63rd in the class of 2013 by Rivals.com and 74th by Scout.com, which also listed him as 18th at his position. Both recruiting services have given him a four-star rating.
Jenkins averaged 19.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.9 steals last season for Gonzaga College High School in Washington, leading his team to a 27-7 record and the championship of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.
He did not play AAU basketball this season after undergoing surgery on his left pinky finger.
Jenkins also was offered a scholarship by Rutgers, Xavier, Clemson and Miami. He told Zagsblog.com the reason he chose Villanova was that Wright and his staff “gave me a vision, a plan for me that was something I couldn’t turn down.”

"I’m not going to let people define my career as a player thus far if I don’t win a championship,” he said. “They are going to say I’m a bust or I flopped or that I didn’t have a good career in the NBA because I didn’t win a championship in the time that they wanted me to do it? I’m just going to keep enjoying what I’m doing and hopefully I get there sooner than later.”

’I’ve heard a few times, in three or four years, this league is going to be yours. . . . I don’t like that. Because I think I’m established now. My time is now,’ Durant said. ‘I feel as though I’ve proved myself these last five years that I can be one of the top players in the league. I’ve got a long way to go to being the ultimate best, but I think my time is now. And I’m starting to enter my prime.’ Durant explained that he felt he belonged in the discussion of the league’s best since playing in the 2011 All-Star Game in Los Angeles but has mostly kept that sentiment bottled up, because, ‘I don’t like to talk about myself, but I had to get that out there.’
